According to the West Hararghe region, 21,000 hectares of land has been covered so far with the work being done to cultivate wheat on more than 40,500 hectares of land under irrigation this year.

The experience gained from last year’s irrigated wheat cultivation on more than 17,000 hectares of land has been used to triple this year and use the water available equally.

717 pumps have been repaired and 2500 pumps are in demand and we are working to provide this through various strategies, said Mrs. Misiraa Mahammad, Head of Irrigation and Horticulture Development Office of the district. 23,213 hectares of traditional irrigation, 3,830 hectares of modern irrigation and 13,340 pumps are being used to supply water to a total of more than 40,500 hectares of land, she added.
